Welcome to the Boys' Love Games Headquarters, a site dedicated mainly to Japanese boys' love PC games. In my travels of the web, while I have found a good abundance of these sites in Japanese, there is very little information available about these games in English, which has led me to aim to create the most comprehensive informative site on boys' love games on the web for English-speakers.

While yaoi, the anime style depicting two males in romantic relationships, has started to get a bit more exposure outside of Japan, this seems to be limited mainly to tamer movies and manga. One important aspect of the yaoi genre has been completely ignored -- what the Japanese term "boys' love games." Similar to your typical ren'ai (romance) game, these are games for the PC in which the goal is to win a boyfriend for the male main character, or likewise get the main character into other slashy situations, usually done in a "choose-your-own-adventure" style setup. To the average yaoi fangirl, these games add a whole new level of enjoyment that you don't get with movies or manga, as you somewhat get to "control" the outcomes of the characters in the game to an extent.

For those that have never played a boys' love game but have an interest in yaoi, I highly recommend giving it a try, as I doubt you will be disappointed. Or maybe you have tried boys' love games, but have had such little information about them that they were too frusterating to play, or you didn't have the slightest idea what to get or where to get them. In both cases, I hope this page gives the information you need.

Announcements

I just wanted everyone to be aware that this site isn't dead. I know game review updates have become pretty rare since 2006, when I made the decision to return to school and finish getting a college degree (I'm finishing up my A.A. this semester, and next fall will embark on a B.A., guaranteed to eat even more of my time). However, there are still "updates" to the site even when new reviews are not being added and announced on this front page. I maintain many databases and resources of information on my message board, such as the following:

  • Boys' Love PC Game List and Girls' PC Game List - Lists of all boys' love and girls' game releases, organized by company, with links to the company and Getchu pages for further information.
  • PC BL/Girl Games Release Dates - A list of all games organized by release date, with up-coming releases at the top, with links to the company and Getchu pages at the top.
  • BL and Girl Game Info Sheets - Informative spreadsheets that contain all PC boys' love and girls' games, with links to the company and Getchu page, game type, genre, content tags, and artist and scenerio writer information. These can be used to search for games of a certain type (for example, all SLGs or all games featuring a vampire, etc.)
  • The Complete Idiot's Guide to Japanese Gaming - This is a tutorial I put together for my YaoiCon 2007 panel, which is now available for download. Everything you could want to know about embarking on Japanese gaming is here, from setting your computer into Japanese, to installing games and playing games, to using AGTH.
  • Patch Archive - This is an anchive I've created of all boys' love and girls' game patches and updates. This makes it easy to see if a game title has a patch available and download it. Includes patches to dead companies that are no longer available anywhere else.
  • Translation Tool: Anime Games Text Hooker - My tutorial thread for the translation tool Anime Games Text Hooker. Also includes an archive of /h codes and AGTH/Atlas resources or other useful translation tools.
  • Boys' Love Game AGTH Compatibility List and Girls' Game AGTH Compatibility List - Here I have tested the majority of all BL and girls' games for AGTH compatibility and posted my exact findings. Currently, this is where a lot of my "update" efforts have been going, as I've been educated in new methods to making incompatible games now compatible (however, these methods take me a /long/ time per game: Kaitou Apricot ~Complete Edition~ and Square na Kankei took me around 8 hours /each/ to create a working hook, and Angelique Etoile took me two days!) Little by little I am testing new games and trying to make older games that were previously incompatible work, and I plan to try to get even more done during the summer.

I have a few new things I'd also to make mention of. I now have a mailing list for updates to the website. If you would like to be notified by e-mail when this site updates, then please subscribe to the Boys' Love Games Headquarters ML. This is a newletter-style mailing list which will inform you when I make updates to vital message board threads (like those listed above) or to the main website. This is not a discussion list, if you'd like to discuss BL/girl games, please use the message board.

Also, there are now two new sections added to the message board under BL/Girl Game Discussion. One is the Translations and Summaries board, where people may share any news reguarding translation or summary projects for games, or to post their own translations or summaries. The other is the Fanworks board, where people may post fanworks related to BL/girl games or post any discussion related to such (perhaps asking game plot questions to help with a fanfic idea, or for links to Japanese fanart sites, etc., or to give someone comments about their work). Over the last several years, I've only had one fanwork contribution to my site that wasn't my own. Please, if you have any fanworks related to boys' love or girls' games, considering submitting it to the site.

Updates

4/2/08 -- Added one fanfic, an Animamundi fic by Firestorm717, to the Fanworks section. This is literally my first fanwork submission to this site in years (not counting my own fanworks). Please take the time you let you know you appreciate the story by using her contact information provided on the Fanworks page, or use the new Fanworks area of the message board.

4/9/07 -- My review of Lasting Snow is now available in the Game Database. Also, I have received my first multimedia submissions to this site in years, with two Apocripha/0 Winamp skins submitted by Andreea, so please check them out in the Multimedia section. Also, I have removed the Contact section completely from this site, since all of my best efforts was not helping the situation of me receiving constant e-mail breaking my rules. I now have new a new procedure for contacting me, so please make yourself aware of this change. [In-depth update info].

1/8/07 -- To my horrible embarrassment, exactly one year to the day since the addition of my Angel's Feather review, I bring you Cafe Lindbergh, the fourth-highest voted on a game suggestion poll I ran several years back. Expect all the usuals, including a massive capture guide that took quite a bit of work to make due to the large number of endings and CGs in the game. Also, I've been made a co-leader of the HF-Bishoujo Games club on Hongfire. I've set up a thread there devoted to BL and Girl game discussion. Please come check it out! [In-depth update info].
