Angel's Feather

Some people have had trouble installing Angel's Feather. Here is a step-by-step guide of how to install on an American version of Windows XP with the non-unicode language default set to Japanese. Note that this is for the version of Angel's Feather which has been imaged properly around the SafeDisk protection. You will need to have Disk 3 in your drive when you launch the game so it can make the protection check. If your copy was /not/ properly imaged around the protection, there are some additional steps provided for using a work-around cracked .exe file.

1. Make sure your copy of Windows XP is set into Japanese as the non-unicode default language. (instructions to do this are on the Japanese Game Installation Guide). You absolutely must have native Japanese language support correctly running on your system or you will not be able to install! Third party programs like NJStar Communicator or AsianSuite on Windows 98/Me will not work.

2. Insert Disk 1 of Angel's Feather. The following screen will pop-up. Click each of the three buttons highlighted on the side to install the appropriate softwares and codecs needed to run the game.

3. Click the top left button to install the game, as highlighted below.

4. You will get a Windows Install Shield Wizard. Initially it'll scan some files, then bring up your typical install shield. Click "Next."

5. Select the directory you wish to install the game, then click next. Make sure you have lots of free space, the game will require a gig or so, and it's good to have even higher than that free on the drive you choose to install it.

6. Now you will get a big progress bar. It will fill up to about 56% or so, and then pop-up a Japanese message on the screen, as shown below. Note that if you select a partition on your hard drive that doesn't have enough space, you will get an error message instead.

7. Insert Disk 2, and hit "OK" on the pop-up. The installation will continue. It will likely give you an error that says "Windows - Wrong Volume: The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume DISK1 into drive." This is /okay/. The progress bar should still be advancing up to 100%, so just ignore it for now.

8. After the progress bar has reached 100%, you will get the finish screen. Now that it is done copying files, go ahead and insert Disk 1, and hit "Continue" on the "Windows - Wrong Volume" message. It may pop up the initial install screen again when you insert Disk 1. Just cancel it. Now click the "Finish" button on the bottom of the install window.

9. Now the install is complete! Remove Disk 1 and insert Disk 3. It should be up and running!

Note that you will need Disk 3 in the drive everytime you load the game so that it can make the protection check, as well as play the background music. You may apply a noCD patch so that you do not have to have Disk 3 in your drive to play, but you also will not be able to play the background music if you apply it.

After installing Angel's Feather, please make sure to apply the Angel's Feather 1.02b Patch. This corrects minor issues with the game.

Installing Angel's Feather (Version Disabled by Copy Protection)

Now, I would like to note that if you downloaded Angel's Feather from #yaoiforever on IRC, and possibly other sources, the copy protection on Disk 3 is NOT completely removed, requiring a cracked .exe file to be applied for the game to run Disk 3 from the CD-ROM. If this is the case for you, continue the installation with these additional steps:

1. Follow the above installation steps. Insert Disk 3. When it first runs, you will probably get the below error. This is okay! Just click "Close" on it.

2. Now go to the directory where Angel's Feather is installed on your hard drive. There will be a file called "af.exe." If you click this file, you will get the following error message, shown below. This is due to copy protection that doesn't want the game to read Disk 3 which is waiting in the CDROM. But that's okay, there is a way around this!

3. Now you will need the Angel's Feather cracked .exe file. It can be downloaded here. It will be a .rar file with two files inside: a readme.txt and an af.exe file. Extract the af.exe to the Angel's Feather directory. Windows will ask if you want to replace the file, as shown below. Click "Yes".

4. Make sure Disk 3 is still in your CDROM drive. Now double-click the af.exe file. You will get the following pop-up. Click on the game button as shown below.

5. Now the game will load up! Voila, you have Angel's Feather installed and ready to be played!

After installing Angel's Feather, please make sure to apply the Angel's Feather 1.02b Patch. This corrects minor issues with the game.

Installing from the DVD version of Angel's Feather

I had absolutely no troubles or issues installing Angel's Feather from the DVD-ROM version. It installs the full game from the DVD-ROM. To my knowledge, there are no differences in content between the CD-ROM version and the DVD-ROM version (if I am incorrect about this, please let me know).

The DVD-ROM version does not need the correction patch that was put out for the CD-ROM version. In fact, applying it could cause your game problems. I had accidentally applied the patch to my DVD-ROM install, and it caused problems with my game and I had to uninstall and reinstall it.

The game does make a disk check, so you will need your DVD in the drive when you play the game. It will also load the background music directly from the DVD in your drive. You may also still apply the 18+ add-on disk, even though it is on a CD-ROM, with no problems, as well as the 18+ voice add-on that comes with Kohaku no Hitomi.

If you have the Angel's Feather 18+ Add-on disk, now that the game is installed you can install the add-on disk. It is very straight forward -- just pop it in and hit okay, and it'll patch over the new CG information to your Angel's Feather install. This is, of course, optional; applying the add-on disk only adds 18+ images to the install. Note that the 18+ Add-on disk does not contain voice; this is normal, not something wrong with your disk! However, a voice add-on for the 18+ scenes was included on the disk to Angel's Feather ~Kohaku no Hitomi~. This add-on also adds a few new CGs and changes Shion's seiyuu to match his new seiyuu in Kohaku no Hitomi (Ishikawa Hideo). If you have Kohaku no Hitomi and want to apply this add-on, do so after you have installed Angel's Feather and the 18+ Add-on disk. The button on the Kohaku no Hitomi install screen to do this is shown below. Note that you do not have to install the entire game of Kohaku no Hitomi, only this option on the install screen.

This is how I installed Angel's Feather. I /cannot/ ensure this will work on all systems. Making games work on a specific system isn't my job. But these are the steps I took to play Angel's Feather on my PC.
