    Playability

Silver Chaos Fanbox: Eternal Fantasia, being a fanbox, isn't really a game, but rather a bunch of collected goodies for fans of Silver Chaos.

The main attraction of this fanbox is it includes epilogue stories that show what happens after each of the endings from the original Silver Chaos game. For those that have gotten the different endings from the original game and want more, now you can see what happens with Might and his different possible endings from the first game: with Adonis, Hector, Werne, Lawrence, Leica, Pam, Kurt, Ragsiel, and Herdeus. However, the "evil Might with Herdeus" ending is missing. Also, Sergei and Fritz do not make an appearance.

These epilogues play out in a visual novel style, and they are /nothing/ but CGs. You do not see the character stills, rather they only show the CG graphics with the voice dialogue. There are 38 new CGs to whet your Silver Chaos appetite.

The game also features some computer goodies, including tons of recorded Windows sounds by the different characters, hosting 81 different voice files. There is also a large wallpaper section, and a mini quiz game. The characters of the game read you questions about Silver Chaos, and you have ten seconds to pick from the multiple-choice answers. After clearing one stage of the quiz game, you can get to new stages. Getting answers correct in the quiz game rewards you with new wallpaper in the wallpaper section.

    Troubleshooting

As far as technical issues with the game, I had no problems on Windows XP with the language set to Japanese. Be aware this game requires native Japanese OS support: this means you will not be able to play on Windows 98/Me using third-party Japanese support software. You must have Windows 2000/XP set into native Japanese properly, or a Japanese version of Windows.

AGTH Compatibility - Silver Chaos Fanbox: Eternal Fantasia is compatible with Anime Games Text Hooker. It does not need any extra parameters. However, the GetGlyphOutlineA thread that extracts text is located below all the visible threads in the drop-down menu, so you will have to hit Tab, and then the down arrow until you find the GetGlyphOutlineA thread that is extracting the text. The address of this thread seems to vary between loads of the game, so /w cannot be used to automatically select the text thread.

    Review

Being a fanbox, this game really is designed for fans of Silver Chaos, featuring extended endings and computer goodies for anyone who just didn't get enough from the first game.

As such, this is a game that you will only want to pick up if you are a fan of Silver Chaos, and it is a must for the Silver Chaos fan's collection. While it is very short, as is the case with most fanbox games, the fact that you get to see additional footage about what happens after the different endings for the first game, featuring lots of new CGs, makes it worthwhile. A lot of games could benefit with additional stories to the ending couplings, and that is exactly what this fanbox brings you. Plus you get goodies for your PC as well. While I'm not interested in the sound files myself, I'm sure many fans would find them a plus. They also have a great wallpaper section. The fact there is a built-in mini-game to gain more wallpapers is both a plus and a minus in my opinion: a plus because it gives another interactive aspect to the game, but a minus because for non-Japanese-reading fans, because it can get really frusterating randomly picking options from the multiple choices trying to get questions right to unlock the wallpapers that are missing.

If you are new to Silver Chaos, then you will probably want to steer clear, as the epilogue short stories featured in this game spoil the endings for the original game. They would also be confusing without the background revealed about the characters and story from the first game. My suggestion: get the original Silver Chaos, play it through, and once you've gotten all the endings then check out this game. It's short, but it's more Silver Chaos, and should tide you over until Silver Chaos 2: Artificial Mermaid is released.
