In the back, Eruruu, Aruruu, Kamyu, and Yuzuha are playing cards. Eruruu plays a 6-2 and then Aruruu plays a 2-5, and Kamyu plays a 5-5 fold. Yuzuha then plays a 5-6 and 5-4, a double-fold. Kamyu giggles and tells her sorry, but she returns with a double-fold. Yuzuha is silent, and Urutorii (who is hanging over her shoulder and helping her play) tells her she doesn't need to show restraint. Yuzuha then plays a 0, creating a four-fold return, slaughtering the other players. She says she is sorry, and Kamyu tells her she doesn't need to apologize, and Urutorii tells her that there is no word that a winner has to give to the loser. Kamyu says that her sister thinks cruelly, and then says that for only being taught, Yuzucchi got strong fast, and she's surprised. Yuzuha says thank you to the compliment. In the front of the wagon, Karura looks over at Hakuoro and asks him if he is still being sulky. He says it is not surprising, as it is okay to involve himself but to involve these girls is a different matter. By going to Na Tunku and supporting the rebel army, they are involved. Eruruu is silent, and Yuzuha asks him not to be angry. She says that she is happy like this, for the first time, so therefore to not be mad, and he is taken by the face she makes. Urutorii says that it was her that brought everyone along, so if he wants to blame someone, to blame her. He thinks to himself that of course Uruto takes responsibility without fail, and that there isn't much reason to blame now, though at about this time Oboro is probably going half-crazy. ~~~~~ Hakuoro and his party enter Na Tunku. Hakuoro tells them that they are now near the national border, and because he doesn't know what will happen, they should be careful. Yuzuha makes a questioning face, and Hakuoro asks her what it is, and she says that she hears a voice, like a scream. Karura then takes off running, and Hakuoro tells her to wait right there, but she is already gone so he goes after her. Not far off, a girl is running from some men. One of the men yells to the others not to stagger, and that after many days it makes this game (animal being hunted) even more enjoyable. She trips and falls, and a man asks if it has ended already, and then asks what method should be used, as he unsheathes his sword. The clinking sound of Karura's chain is then heard, and Hakuoro sees her step toward them. The girls asks her to save her, and one of the men says that it looks like someone has gotten lost, and the men stare at Karura's body with contempt. Karura smiles at the girl, and tells her to go. The girl looks shocked, and Karura asks her what it is, to get going. The girl nods and then runs. One of the men says the catch has gotten away, but another says it is okay, because they have this one who has gotten lost will be fine. This is different, someone with a life of considerable merit, so she will be very enjoyable. He says that it will be easy to break her now, and starts laughing, and asks why she isn't running. The men laugh vulgarly at Karura, and Hakuoro wonders who they are, but thinks that if they knew Karura, then they'd never do such a behavior. Karura says she wants to know something, and asks them how many they have killed from seeing the blood and gore on them. The men ask if she thinks they count each and every one of the escapees they take care of, and that the women and children aren't even worth doing such, and killing women is enjoyed as much as having three meals a day. Karura stares at them silent for a moment, and Hakuoro thinks "Fool..." to himself. In the next second there is a splash of blood, and the man who has sad that falls to the ground, his body split in two. The other men stand with a gaping facial expression of disbelief, then hastily surround Karura. They curse at her and unsheath their swords. She tells Hakuoro to shut his eyes, and he wonders what she means. The massacre begins. Karura lets out a loud battle cry, and starts cutting the men apart, releasing a torrent of blood and gore. Some of the men try to run away and hide behind rocks and trees, but she throws stones and strikes them down. In the end, only one man remained, the one that had laughed at her so vulgarly, all the rest corpses. His haughty attitude is gone, and he cries for help. Karura asks if there is anyone to help him, as he pleads for his life. He stutters that there are others that were overlooked, and again calls for help. She tells him if that's the case, then he can go ahead and go. Hakuoro thinks to himself that it appears they are enclosed by a considerable number. Karura asks why he isn't running away, and if his current word is a lie. The man lets out a frightened yell and escapes in a crawl, disappearing into the brush. Then a loud scream is heard, and the sound of flesh being cut apart in the distance. Then there is silence. There is a sound of leaves rustling, and then some men come to encircle around Hakuoro and Karura, and Hakuoro realizes they are the rebel army. The crowd of people splits and a man with blue hair and cat-like ears steps forward, and the girl who Karura had saved stands behind him nervously. When she sees them look at her, she bows several times. Hakuoro realizes that apparently the girl called them, bringing them to help. The man asks if they did this, with just the two of them, and asks who they are. He sets his eyes on them, and as he does so Karura leans back out of the way a bit. Hakuoro wonders what is up with her, as she remains silent. The man asks them to answer. Looking him over, Hakuoro realizes he is of the Giriyagina race. He tells him they are merely common travelers, and asks him who he is. The man doesn't seem too convinced with this answer, and says that normally he wouldn't answer such a question, but they helped them, so it is necessary for him to introduce himself. He says that he is Derihourai, the leader of the rebel army Karurau'atsuurei. Hearing "Karurau'atsuurei", Hakuoro thinks to himself it is as he thought; the man looks like Karura, and is probably from the Giriyagina race, but there is something more, because of Karura's current behavior and the name "Karurauatsurei". Derihourai asks them to answer a question, and says if they are just travelers, then why did they behave in such a way. Right now there is a war going on there, and they can't say that they didn't know. He asks what their purpose is, and Hakuoro answers that they figured the war would be a way to get a job, as they thought they might hire their help. Derihourai says they are Ankuamu (hired soldiers), and though they have skill, they have no need for them. Hakuoro asks if that is so, that a lot of soldiers must be necessary even for a person like him. Suddenly Hakuoro is glomped by Aruruu, and Eruruu comes running up, telling her to stop and that she told her to wait, and then looks in surprise at all the men. Derihourai is silent for a moment, then says they have brought women and children along, and that there is a lack in skill with such a hindrance. Hakuoro asks him if he should show him the skill of the women and children, and asks Aruruu to show him, so she calls for Mukkuru, who comes forward with a growl. Hakuoro then gestures to Eruruu, and says she is a first class healer, and she looks surprised at hearing him say this. He then says the others are an Ebenkuruga soldier, and Onkamiyaryuu mages, and that they all are strong people that are a match for a thousand, and asks him then if they are just useless women and children. Derihourai is silent for a moment, then says they'd certainly be a little helpful, however the assistance is not needed, because it is their fight. He says the enemy will come to this place sooner or later, so they should leave at once, and he and his men go. The girl lingers, remaining silent, and bows to them again many times, then runs after them. Hakuoro is quiet, and then says that he sees, and that of this Karurau'atsuurei, the younger brother leaves without even saying his gratitude. Eruruu asks if it's Karura's younger brother, and Karura continues to say nothing. Hakuoro asks if she isn't going to deny it, and then says that in any case Karura is simply Karura to him and he will not inquire into the matter further. He asks what they should do now, and then there is a rustle, and suddenly a middle-aged man pushes through the overgrowth and prostrates himself on the ground in a deep bow in front of Karura. Hakuoro recalls that he's certain this man was next to Derihourai. Karura says "It's been a long time, Katumau", and at her words the man starts crying, asking if it is Karurau'atsuurei-sama after all, and it has been so long. She says that she stuck to the agreement, and says she wishes to express her gratitude for the girl from before. He says that her words of thanks are more than one deserves, and that now that Karurau'atsuurei-sama has come, there is nothing to fear, and says this should be told to Derihourai. At those words, Karura quietly shakes her head. Katumau asks her why, that the power of Karurau'atsuurei-sama is necessary right now, and that she should know that the way things are going, their defeat is inevitable. Derihourai is impatient in the situation, and they can't do anything because they are cowards. Karura says that now, she is a woman named Karura that exists only for one man, so Karurau'atsuurei doesn't exist. Suddenly there is a sound of leaves crunching under feet, and a man rushes in, telling Katumau that it is serious, that when Derihourai began advancing, everyone... His words cut off and Katumau asks why didn't they stop, and the man says Derihourai-sama had forbidden it. Katumau says that anyway, Derihourai-sama is being chased, and at any cost must be stopped. Karura says nothing, and then turns to leave, and Katumau asks where she is going. She says she is going on a stroll, and since Master-sama is also going on a stroll, she will accompany him, and as she says this she grabs Hakuoro and starts dragging him away with her, giving Hakuoro no word in the matter. ~~~~~ Derihourai and some of his soldiers rush into an area of the forest of huge trees with wood and roots spread over a riverbed. As they enter, in front of them a group of enemy soldiers approach. Derihourai wonders why there would be an ambush here, but it's okay because they will all be crushingly defeated. He yells at them to come to him, and they start approaching, and a group of Derihourai's men scream and run away. Derihourai yells at them to wait and asks where they are going, and remarks they are cowards. One of Derihourai's men goes up to the enemy, and Derihourai looks with shocked confusion. The man says that he has done according to their deal, and to now please let him see his wife and child. Derihourai asks if this is true, and then screams at him that he's a bastard. The man turns around to Derihourai and asks him if he can't understand his feelings, the feelings of a weak person. With his back turned to the enemy, a soldier stabs the man in the back, and he turns to them and says they have deceived him. The soldier says no, that according to their promise, they are reuniting him with his wife and child, who are waiting in Kotuahamuru (the afterlife). The man screams and raises his sword, but the enemy slices through him, and he falls over dead. The enemy starts approaching and one of Derihourai's men tells him they need to retreat from there at once, there is still time to do so. Derihourai says he will not retreat, that the for the Giriyagina, the back is never turned on the enemy. He tells them that if they want to run away, then to run away. The men say "Such behavior from us..." trailing off, and them firmly shout that they are staying. On a log ridge up above on a cliff, Hakuoro and the girls rush in, seeing Derihourai and his men being attacked by the soldiers down below. [Battle 15 - Defeat the Na Tunku soldiers and save Derihourai] They fight their way down the cliff, making it in time to help defeat the enemies that were overpowering Derihourai and his men. Touka says they managed to make it in time, and asks him if he is okay. Derihourai states that he doesn't recall asking for help, and their behavior was unnecessary. Touka gets angry, saying he is being rude, and is that any way for a person to speak whom's life was just saved. Derihourai says that for this one time, he says his thanks, however, he had told them before that their help was unnecessary. Touka asks if he would say such a thing if he'd been even a little more close to death, and he dismisses it, saying that he didn't die. Touka says it is because he had them, and though he survived this time, and in the future his safety will not last. He replies that even if he did die, it would be because he is only a man of that degree. Katumau asks Derihourai what should be done about Tamua, and Derihourai says to throw the body away, because he was a foolish man and that is the only suitable fate for a betrayer. Then suddenly there is the sound of a loud punch, and Derihourai is knocked to the ground from the impact. Karura then says she is sorry, her hand must have slipped, and Hakuoro thinks to himself that it was a pretty strong slip. Derihourai curses at her, and she says that for a small man, betrayal is only natural. He asks what she means, and she asks if he has even once thought from the standpoint of a weak person, or is a person like that just a shield for him that loses thier life. He says that he is Giriyagina, so it isn't necessary to think about the standpoint of a weak person. Karura says that the Giriyagina's strength was in self-conceitedness, that they were a clan that didn't notice the pain of weak people, and that is the reason why that clan died. He says a person of her rank in the presence of a Giriyagina has no right to talk that way and he will not permit anymore insults. She says that she has only stated the truth, and he asks her what would she understand of the Giriyagina. She says she understands from him, and then says that since he apparently can't understand from words, she will teach him with the body what a Giriyagina is, and the feelings of a weak person. Derihourai asks if she plans to fight against him, and she says "Fight?" and starts laughing. He asks her what is so amusing, and she says that with him it would merely be a trifle for herself, rather than a fight as he says. He is silent for a moment and then says that she has gone too far, and that he'll give a suitable resolution. She is silent, and he asks her what it is, and why she isn't taking a fighting stance. She simply says "Avoid it" and in the next instant there is a loud sound and the ground shakes as Karura strikes the ground and the impact blows Derihourai off high through the air, and crashes heavily back to the ground. Karura says he doesn't really know anything, his posture was not that of a Giriyagina. He lets out a slight moan and Hakuoro wonders if he could even get up after that, and notices he's already lost consciousness. Karura says that she has taught enough, and says in what way is she a tiny existance. Some time passes, and then Katumau and the girl from before makes it to the scene, and bends down by Derihourai, asking if he is okay and to please hang on. Karura tells her not to worry, he has only fainted, and now with this he has no qualification to introduce himself as a Giriyagina. Katumau says he can't be excused, as he taught Derihourai-sama incomplete martial arts teachings. Karura tells him that if he had not done so, then this child would not have been about to survive, so she wishes to express her gratitude, and Katumau tells her that her words are too kind. Hakuoro asks once again what they should do now, and Katumau asks for them, and Derihourai-sama, to please lend their power. His master Derihourai-sama carries great talents, but as of yet they are not perfected, and because they are cowardly, with the way things are going, his abilities will become worse. He asks them to please give power and training to Derihourai-sama's abilities, and Karura says she refuses. Katumau says he sees, upset by this answer. Karura then says that however the decision is on their leader, who is an honorable person, and that because of this Master-sama is meddlesome and shows kindness to humanity. He is not an unrefined man would decline a wish and takes responsibility for thoughtless work. Hakuoro asks if he really did such a thing, and Urutorii smiles with a slight giggle. Hakuoro wonders why Karura can't just be obedient. Then he feels the muscles along his spine go tense, and turns to see Eruruu silently glaring at his with an annoyed expression. ~~~~~ In the Na Tunku imperial palace, a soldier comes in to report to Suonkasu, the emperor. Suonkasu says that is unnecessary, and the soldier is confused. Suonkasu asks if he things his information hasn't already reached his ears, and he's just come back running away with his tail between his legs. The soldier asks for forgiveness, and then there is a splash of blood as Suonkasu kills the soldier, and he falls over with a thud. Suonkasu then tells his men to tidy things up. He is silent for a moment, then says "You've come back... You've returned to me... Karura." He then breaks out into laughter. ~~~~~ It is night at the rebel army's camp. Derihourai says that now with this, they can maintain the war situation for a while, and Hakuoro says that it would be good to make preparations to reorganize. Derihourai asks how this should be done, and Hakuoro thinks to him that Karura must have greatly took a toll on him, because he's become more obedient. Hakuoro then sees Eruruu, with the girl they saved come up to them. Eruruu gently pushes the shy girl forward, and she stutters to Deri-sama that she's brought tea. Eruruu then tells Hakuoro to please have some, and he starts to thank her but his words are cut off when Karura suddenly shows up and says she is back. Hakuoro says she has returned, and she says that she is tired, and then jumps onto Hakuoro. Eruruu makes her shocked face, and Hakuoro tells her to get off, that she's heavy. She rubs up against him, and he tells her to not cuddle up against his cheek and stop blowing and biting at his earlobe. She asks him why, doesn't it feel good. He thinks to himself that this is being gone against his wishes. Eruruu looks at them angrily, and he asks her for the tea, but she briskly heads off. Derihourai says she is probably just tired, and gives him his tea, and the girl looks a little sad that Derihourai is giving Hakuoro the tea she made for him. Karura then takes it and starts gulping it down. Eruruu, watching for a distance, glares at the scene and Hakuoro can feel the eyes on his back. Later that night, Aruruu, Kamyu, and Yuzuha show up, and he asks them what they are doing there. Kamyu says they heard everyone's voices. Hakuoro asks if they are cold here, and Yuzuha says that because Mukkuru is warm, it is fine, and Mukkuru smiles with a little growl. Hakuoro says he sees, and says it'll quiet down so they can sleep, and in the future they will get something to put on, and everyone can go together. The girls look happy and leave. The Derihourai shows up, and says he wants to ask him something, but then says no, he is making a request. Hakuoro asks what it is, and Derihourai asks him if that woman is his woman. Hakuoro realizes he is referring to Karura, and says it is different. As he says this, he can feel a freezing glare pierce into him, coming from what appears to be eyes flittering in the thicket not far away. He starts to stutter, "Well, that is..." and Derihourai says he sees, and Hakuoro asks him what is it. Derihourai says to give Karura to him. Hakuoro looks in confusion, and Derihourai says it is a request, that when the war ends he wishes by any means for her to be handed over. Hakuoro starts to say that to say such works to that extent, without any restraint, but is cut off before finishing the sentence from feeling another piercing glare. Hakuoro thinks to himself why Karura, recalling the scence of rage from the other day, of her slicing and tearing up all the men and tossing them aside. Hakuoro says that isn't the problem because they are just traveling together. Derihourai says he sees, and Hakuoro asks him why he wants such a thing. Derihourai replies that it is because he has been alone for a long time, and no one understands him, not even Katumau. He says, that day was the first time he'd been hit in such a way. He says that maybe it is because the name is similar, and there is a resemblence in the atmosphere to the life-long separation he had from his elder sister, though they act exactly opposite. Hakuoro asks him what kind of person his sister was, and Derihourai says she was beautiful, graceful, gentle, sweet... Hakuoro starts to say that perhaps this is a lie and then suddenly there is a loud thunk and his vision shakes. Derihourai asks him what is wrong, and he says nothing, though a stone the size of a person's first had been thrown to the back of him from somewhere. Derihourai says that his elder sister is his ideal and yearning, and he has never met a woman greather than her so far. Hakuoro sways and then falls over, and says that she is being glorified too much. ~~~~~ A map is shown of forces clashing around the Na Tunku border. Touka asks Hakuoro what he intends to do after this, and he asks what is the best thing to do now. Urutorii looks concerned, and says that everyone is extremely fatigued already, and Hakuoro says it is likely they won't be able to endure any further. Whatever the war situation, they must make a comeback to win, and that aiming directly at the leader's head would finish things in a hurry, but it isn't that simple because they can't sneak into the castle. Karura then says that it is possible to sneak in, and Hakuoro says "...What?", surprised by her words. She says there is a loophole into the castle, because water is drawn up to the castle from a lake underground, and it is possible to sneak in from the waterway there. Hakuoro asks her why she didn't inform them earlier, and she simply says that there are various reasons. Hakuoro says that if what she says is true, then they will have a complete turn-around, but Karura says there are some problems. Because the waterway is narrow, only a few people would be able to go. There would also be enemies there after getting inside, and it would be likely that they'd end up surrounded. Derihourai says that then an all-out attack would begin, even being undermanned in the castle acting as a decoy, they'd only have to send in the most powerful and behead the leader. Hakuoro says that such a strategy can only be used once, and if an all-out attack is started, the damage would be a considerable. The formation could not be rebuilt if the plan failed, and it would likely turn out to be a disorderly retreat. He says that however, unless desperate and prepared to die an honorable death, a different method should be considered. Derihourai says it is different; everyone's physical strength has already come to its limit, and it is likely they will not be able to keep it up any further. This is a chance at winning, and if they miss it, they will not have victory in sight any longer. It will be difficult and likely a painful fight, but they are at their end. If they win with this, then they'd obtain their freedom, the freedom everyone has wished for. Hakuoro is silent for a moment, then says that he has put on a good face. Derihourai asks him what that means, but Hakuoro just answers that there is nothing to say any longer, and he will go the road by which he believes. Derihourai says "Hakuoro... You... What are you really?" but Hakuoro just says "I am me" and that is it, not what kind of person he is. That night, a man says he truly apologizes to Hakuoro, and Hakuoro tells him that he is worrying, and then gives him some provisions and traveling money, even though it isn't much. Karura tells them to go to a country named Tusukuru, and there they will be accepted. A woman says thank you, and that she will never forget this kindness. She tells her child to show their gratitude, and he says "Thank you, onee-chan, oji-chan" (sister and older man) and Hakuoro says "Old..." in disappointment, and Karura laughs. She tells them to hurry and go, and they say thank you again. As they leave, Hakuoro notes that after the struggle here, they will arrive to a place of peace. He looks at the gathered people, and asks if that is the whole group. Derihourai is silent for a moment and then asks Hakuoro why he let them go, because a lot of war potentials are necessary even now, and he's the one who said so. Karura asks if he really needs a reason. Then Eruruu comes up and says that the food has been prepared, and Derihourai asks why all this, and Karura says because it was decided to hold a feast. Hakuoro tells everyone that for everyone's sake and the sake of tomorrow, to please behave themselves. He then tells them to drink, eat, sing, and dance, and there is a rejoice from the gathered troops. Urutorii asks Kamyu and Yuzuha if they will sing, and they say yes, and Eruruu smiles and asks Aruruu to help her carry the cooking, and Aruruu nods. Touka asks what she should do, and Karura tells her that the two of them will dance. Touka tries to protest, but Karura says "Then, let's go" and drags Touka away. Later, Derihourai goes to Hakuoro and asks him why, a little earlier everyone sobbed at the nightmare, likely to die in the war, so why is this being done so cheerfully. Hakuoro says it is not significant to worry after already resigning oneself, and that is why. Derihourai is quiet and then says, "I... What up to now..." but Hakuoro cuts off his thought and passes a glass to Derihourai. He hesitates for a while, but then drinks it in a gulp, and somehow a smile breaks through on his face. ~~~~~ The next day the battle begins. As soldiers clash on the plains, Hakuoro and his group are at the bottom of a rocky mountain slope. Hakuoro says that it is becoming time go up, and takes a few steps forward. He says at any rate there is the underground lake, and Derihourai says beyond here is the loophole to the imperial palace. Hakuoro asks why there are no soldiers on the look-out, and Karura says that there is something she forgot to mention. Hakuoro turns around to them in question, and Karura says there is a reason why there is no look-out. At that moment a Kimamau runs down the slope and attacks at Hakuoro's exposed back, and Hakuoro turns and hits it with his fan, then runs up to it and attacks it again, killing it. Hakuoro says now they must hurry. Karura says that the Kimamau have settled here, and Hakuoro yells that she should've said this earlier. Eruruu looks up at the top of the mountain, and points out that a lot more are coming. Hakuoro says they must fight quickly, and indicates a passage up above the slope into the rock of the mountain, and says the exit is there and for everyone to go. [Battle 16 - Reach the destination] The party fights off the Kimamau until they make it up the mountain to the cave. Hakuoro says it is just beyond this, and says for them to go. Derihourai tells him to wait, and says that before that, he wants an answer to who he is and why he is helping them. Though they called themselves Ankuamu, he can't understand this, and that he wants to hear the truth of the matter. Hakuoro says no, that now they are Ankuamu. Derihourai curses and Hakuoro says that for them and a certain woman, but then trails off and says no, it was requested of them to lend him power. Derihourai asks "A certain woman?" and says "Surely... this person... He trails off and Hakuoro says that here is not the place to speak. Derihourai asks him to wait and tell him this woman's name, but Hakuoro just tells them to go, there is no more time. Derihourai calls after them to please wait, but they have all entered into the cave. He stands outside the cave by himself in silence, and says "Surely..." ~~~~~ The group makes inside of the imperial palace. They enter into a long room that has several flower ponds along the sides. Hakuoro wonders where everyone is, and Eruruu has a concerned look on her face as she remarks that it is quiet. Karura runs up ahead a bit, and Hakuoro asks her to wait. Eruruu says "This flower..." and Kamyu gets tears in her eyes, saying that it is crying. Hakuoro is confused at her saying this, and Kamyu says that it is good he doesn't see it, because it is too sad, and he realizes that to the eyes of the girls, they are seeing something. Eruruu looks stricken and wonders for what reason this would be done. It is then that Karura speaks up and says there is no mistake, it is as Eruruu fears -- the flowers are grown in a seedbed made from the corpses of living people, which produces the most beautiful bloom. A voice suddenly asks if it meets satisfaction, and they turn to see a platform at the top of a staircase on the other side of the room. Suonkasu is standing there, and says that they were grown with devoted diligence for Karura's sake, and then asks if he should rather call her Karurau'atsuurei. Derihourai exclaims "Karurau'atsuurei!" and that then it was as he thought. Karura tells Suonkasu that he has bad taste as usual, and he says that those are such cold words after such a long time. Karura is silent, and Hakuoro thinks about the words "after such a long time". Suonkasu says that after she disappeared, every day was very lonely and tedious, as if a hole had opened up in his heart, but now she has finally come back, and he had looked foward to the coming of this day. Karura says that regrettably, she did not intend to come back, but Suonkasu laughs and says that she has returned. She is quiet for a moment, and then says that then this revolt had been planned from the beginning. Derihourai says "What?" and Suonkasu answers that is exactly right, and he used that which would be the biggest bait. Derihourai gets angry at Suonkasu's words that he had been used as bait, and Suonkasu tells him to be quiet, there is no need to play around with the bait that has come forth, and Derihourai curses at him. Suonkasu said there was some trouble with keeping control there through a little miscalculation, but even so Karura will now become his from this. Karura says he has not learned from experience yet, that she had noticed before how she was trying to be owned, and now any person who would try to do so will undergo suitable recompensation. She then asks if the loss of his manhood is not yet satisfactory, and hearing this both Derihourai and Hakuoro are frightened by her behavior. Suonkasu says for that matter, he wishes to express his gratitude, because thanks to her he's free of the curse of those dirty male animals. Karura says nothing, and Suonkasu tells her to return to him, it will be the same as living in the imperial palace of Rarumanionu, and then says no, an even more luxurious life will be given. She laughs and says he doesn't understand, that such a life is so formal and boring, that a person with only provisions to live each day, to hear lullabies (Yukaura) while sleeping on a bed of the ground, is sufficient enough. Also, to come running to a place of war, and fight with a man of valor, a friend that knew her temper and still exchanged sake with her, a beloved that she's entrusted herself to, is that not the life of true luxury? Suonkasu said that he expected her to say this, and because she claims she is bound by nobody she doesn't come into possession easily, and that is what makes her beautiful. He then says would she rather give her life instead, and she says that threat is useless to her. He says that may be so, that certainly in her case she would probably endure any pain, but what about other's suffering? He says that he has thought of Karura's sweetness for such a long time, and knows it is not possible for her to be heartless, even if she herself can endure the pain, she could not endure the pain of others, and he has the best evidence of that right here. She is quiet, and he says he will hear her answer once again. She says that she refuses, and Suonkasu draws back in surprise. She runs up to Hakuoro and glomps onto him, and says she already has this honorable person, and as she says so one of her hands grasps the side of his chest, and the other along his abdomen. Hakuoro tells her not to joke around like this at such a time, and realizes he can't move, as her hands are gripping him wiht amazing strength. She says that she won't at this time, and he asks her what she is saying and to release him. She says she won't when he keeps struggling so much, and the sound of his joints popping can be heard. He sees a hand turning purple, and realizes she'll probably crush him with her hands if he resists. Suonkasu asks if she has approved of this man, and then says that sort of decision is nonsense. Hakuoro's bones are heard popping again, and he says he hasn't even said anything, and she asks him if that's so. Suonkasu gets angry that his Karura is showing such intimacy, and Hakuoro says to everyone it isn't how it looks, and notices Eruruu glaring with a mad expression. Suonkasu gets furious and says he will kill him, then says that would be too half-hearted of a thing, so instead he wants him to die while struggling for life and become part of his seedbed. Then several of Suonkasu's soldiers rush into the room from the sides, circling the party. [Battle 17 - Defeat Suonkasu] The fight off the soldiers to make it up the staircase to Suonkasu, but as they reach the top of the flight of stairs, a large wooden fence comes up out of the floor, blocking him off. Hakuoro is shocked, and Suonkasu asks if he thought he'd let another person so easily touch his skin, that only Karura may touch him. Karura says he has bad taste as usual, and she'll send him to Katouahamuru (the afterlife) by her hand. When she nears the fence, he says that it is dreamlike to be able to feel her so nearby, and she tells him to prepare himself. He says to exchange this life like this is supreme bliss, and no wealth could substitute this moment of his life as he attacks her with magic through the fence. They break down the barrier to attack Suonkasu, and as Hakuoro attacks him, Suonkasu says he will be killed and then Karura will be in his possession this time. Hakuoro says that he can't believe how far a man would sacrifice just for the sake of that, and Suonkasu says it can't be helped, even thousands of mediocre people can't obtain her. Hakuoro tells him not to joke like that and attacks. When Derihourai comes to attack at Suonkasu, Suonkasu tells him he was the highest bait, and Derihourai curses at him. Suonkasu says if he doesn't get out of here quickly then he'll kill him, and Derihourai cries out his name and attacks him. Suonkasu is finally defeated, and Hakuoro says "Now, Derihourai!" and Derihourai lets out a battle cry and beats Suonkasu several times, knocking him back against a pillar-like tree up on the platform. Suonkasu stands with great effort, blood on his face, and tries to say Karura's name, then falls over, blood pooling around him. Some of his soldiers come in and approach the stairway, then seeing their leader defeated, all turn and run out, screaming. Hakuoro turns to Derihourai and Karura and asks if it is over, and then Suonkasu stands again, mumbling "Ka... ru... ra..." Derihourai says he is still alive and goes to finish killing him, but Hakuoro tells him to wait, and Derihourai asks why he is stopping him. Hakuoro tells him not to move, they don't need to strike anymore. Suonkasu takes steps forward with great effort, approaching Karura and saying her name between gasps of air. He says it is sublime, beautiful, his Rayanasomu-kami (God of heavenly light). As he continues to edge toward her gasping her name, Karura pushes through Derihourai and Hakuoro to stand before Suonkasu. He falls to his knees in front of her, and she says that even now at this moment, he still loves her more than anyone, and that while she holds him to her chest, to go to sleep. Suonkasu goes silent, and Karura says goodbye, and that there is no hatred. Afterwards, Derihourai says "Aneue-sama" (elder sister), and asks if Karura is his elder sister. She says nothing, and he bursts out "Aneue-sama... Aneue-sama!!" in elation. Karura turns to him and and asks what it is, as it seems she's been mistaken for someone else. Derihourai asks what she is saying, saying that it's him, Deri, the younger brother that had been separated from her since childhood. She says she doesn't remember such things of the past, and he says she is lying. Angrily she tells him to be quiet, and then asks him what it was he came there for, because now at this time, a lot of his fellow countrymen are fighting, and for them, doesn't he have things that need to be done. He tries to protest and she again gets angry and says he's letting matters right before his eyes be snatched away and forgetting his objective. He is quiet and she tells him to please go, and afterwards, then they can talk. He says he understands and will go, but therefore she must promise him she won't go anymore. She smiles and says yes, she promises. Derihourai turns and runs down to the top of his staircase, where some of his men are waiting at the bottom. He calls out to them that as Derihourai of the Giriyagina, their enemy Suonkasu has been killed, and they are now free, no one can bind them any longer. As of now, he declares this place for the Karurau'atsuurei, and Na Tunku becomes known as "Karurau'atsuurei". They let out a cheer that the fight is over. He leaves and Hakuoro and his party are gathered in the room, and Karura turns to them and asks them if they should return now. Eruruu looks confused and says to wait, and asks what Karura is saying, as she made a promise. Urutorii looks at Eruruu and quietly shakes her head. Eruruu looks upset, and says that is just too sad, and tells Karura that she is foolish, a very big fool. Karura says this is true, even she thinks so occassionally. She then tells Eruruu thank you, and Eruruu remains quiet. Hakuoro asks if it is okay, and Karura says yes. He starts to say "Even if you stay..." but trails off and then says "No, it is nothing." He tells them then that they should return back to the place that is their home. Later that night, after they are gone, Derihourai is outside, looking for Karura, calling out asking where his Aneue-sama is, and why, because she promised. Finally he was able to meet her, and now... He lets out an anguished yell of "Aneue-samaaaaaa!!" into the night. ~~~~~ Back in the capital of Tusukuru, Eruruu recalls that their travels have finally ended, and now that they are back at the castle, the uproar from everyone has stopped, though everyone was severely preached to by Benaui and Munto. Now Hakuoro is confined to his workroom, and with a thud Benaui drops a huge pile of paperwork in front of him, and with a smile tells him that all of these need to be finished by the end of the day. Hakuoro looks at the pile and Benaui says it is what has accumulated. Hakuoro asks if he can't subtract some, and Benaui says he will not. Hakuoro pleads to Eruruu to please say something to him, but with a sweatdrop she just tells Hakuoro good luck and to keep at it, and leaves as he protests for her to wait. As she goes out to the porch, she mentions that for the moment, Hakuoro is probably feeling injured. She goes to Karura's room, and tells her that she has brought some sake she prepared and asks if she would taste it, and pours some for her. Karura says it is good she has come, and to take a seat because she was wanting a companion. Eruruu says no, she just wanted Karura to take a taste, and Karura does so and says it is quite delicious, but if she may dare to say, when Eruruu makes this kind of sake it would be better if she thickened it with a little more seasoning. Eruruu notes her suggestion, then thinks that Karura will always never change. She turns to leave and Karura calls her name, and then tells her thank you. Eruruu takes the compliment and leaves, thinking that Karura's smile sometimes looks lonely, and wonders if it is because of her feelings.
